It is getting too late to plant broccoli and cauliflower because our hot weather is approaching fast and these are cool season vegetables, only growing well during the fall, winter and early spring months.
To harvest cauliflower and broccoli now, you would need to plant either the seed or transplants last fall and even early winter. To produce cauliflower will take anywhere from 50 to 75 days depending on the variety. When planting in the fall, always add about five extra days because the plants grow more slowly as temperatures get colder.
The quality is the highest when these heads develop during temperatures from 50 to 65° F. If you want to harvest in early March, you can plant transplants in mid December.For harvesting in
February, transplants should go in in mid November.
It is easy to see that if you put transplants in the garden a month apart in the fall, you will harvest successively through the winter and early spring.
Ideally cauliflower would be harvested from October through early April. Since it takes about two months to produce a head the planting dates would be from late August Planting now is pushing it and the developing head will not be the best
