Q. Is Viragrow BF Compost organic?
A. Viragrow compost is organic in one sense of the word and not organic in another. The term "organic" can be very misleading. There is enough wiggle room in the term "organic" that some unscrupulous marketing people can make claims a product is organic when it may not be, according to your way of thinking.
What does organic mean? Organic can mean a compost made from formally living products. It can also mean anything made from products resembling formerly living products. And in a third sense, it can mean a product which has met the US Department of Agriculture's organic certification requirements. Viragrow compost meets the first two criteria, but not the third. It is not a certified organic product and cannot be used in the US Department of Agriculture's certified organic program. The Organic certification program is conducted by each State Department of Agriculture for the USDA.

USDA Organic Certification. To meet US Department of Agriculture's certification requirement as an organic product, all of the components used to make the compost must also be certified organic and verified through a chain of custody. This means that the green waste used to make this compost must come from trees that were grown from organic seeds, or organic cuttings, fertilized only with organic fertilizers throughout its life and only sprayed with pesticides that are certified organic. This would be impossible to verify and hugely expensive to do. No one would buy our product if we had to include the price tag for such a process.
Viragrow is a company that provides the best possible compost, safe for the public to use, at competitive prices.
