Here are some products you should be considering for fruit and vegetable production this time of year. Viragrow has very competitive prices on these products. We are not just a compost and mulch company. When putting spray program together for fruits and vegetables always select several products which can be used in rotation. Never focus on a single product to control pests. Inspect the bottom of leaves for the presence of pests and make sure they are present before spraying.
Right now you are focusing on the following pests outdoors: aphids, ants, cutworms, hornworms, grape leaf skeletonizer, tomato fruit worm, leafhoppers, Western flower thrips, peach twig borer, codling moth, corn earworm, leaf footed plant bug, tree borers, whiteflies, squash bugs, and some others.
Insects that you do not want to harm and you are likely to see in the garden are ladybird beetles (ladybugs), green lace wings, pirate bugs, assassin bug and soldier beetles. Less common are the praying mantids. Take time to get to know them that's why I hyperlinked them to a site with pictures.
Bt. Bacillus thuringiensis. Monterrey Bt is a naturally occurring bacterium found in soils all over the world. It is a very safe product to use around humans and pets because it targets insects that are in the family of moths. Safe around honeybees.
Insects killed by Bt must eat plant parts that have this bacterium on its surface. That's why it is particularly effective against grape leaf skeletonizer, cutworms, tomato fruit worm, hornworms, peach twig borer.Mix this product with water and spray on the undersides and topsides of leaves.
Focus on all vegetables, grapes, peach trees apricots and almonds. It is best if you use it with a spreader/sticker additive to help keep it on the foliage where insects might feed.
Viragrow's retail price is $13.60 for a pint of conentrate.
